What are Trade Promotions?

Trade Promotions are predominantly marketing campaigns aimed at building demand at the retailer level. In a Trade Promotion, retailers/wholesalers are offered special price discounts (typically in addition to trade allowances sometimes also referred to as Trading Terms) or display systems, gifts with purchase or other incentives.

Some of these may include:

  • Co-operative advertising eg catalogue or TV commercial
  • In-store marketing eg improved in-store placement or displays
  • Additional discounts eg volume case buys, scan data discounts
  • Lower retail selling prices eg BOGOF
  • Competitions related to specific retailers
  • Spiffs or staff incentives
  • Training programmes to assist sales volume increases
